7.3 / 10

Why 7.3: A turbocharged inline-five with the off-beat exhaust note nothing else at this price replicates, mated to quattro all-wheel drive and a dual-clutch gearbox that makes it as easy to daily as a Golf R. It never sold in meaningful US numbers, which keeps it a genuine sleeper even now.

Sound

The 1-2-4-5-3 firing order gives the 2.5 five-cylinder a warble nothing else on sale makes, and it is the main reason to buy the car. It is capped by a single turbocharger softening the edges and a 7,000 rpm limit that arrives before the note develops.

Rear seatsStandard

Two ISOFIX points are fitted in the rear, but Euro NCAP flagged the low roofline and tight footwell as a real struggle for bulkier seats.

Front passenger seatNot available

The TT's front seats have no ISOFIX provision — Audi doesn't offer it on this 2+2 sports coupe at any trim.

The rear seats aren't usable with the front seats set for a taller adult driver — the 2+2 layout is tighter in practice than the spec sheet suggests.

The long version

Audi never offered the TT RS with a manual gearbox in the US, which quietly kept it off cross-shopping lists next to the Golf R and Civic Type R despite sharing most of its underpinnings with both, but the turbocharged five-cylinder's off-beat exhaust note is a genuine point of difference nothing else at this price replicates. Quattro all-wheel drive and the dual-clutch gearbox make it easy to drive daily in weather that would sideline a rear-drive coupe, and that practicality shows in how these get used: commuted, toured, occasionally tracked, rarely garaged for its own sake. Values have settled into ordinary German-coupe depreciation rather than anything resembling a speculative curve.
