Why 2.5: The Mezger 3.6 turbocharged to 620 hp, 70 kg stripped out with a carbon bonnet, carbon wings and a titanium exhaust, rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual as the only gearbox. In 2010 it was the most powerful road car Porsche had built, and it lapped the Nordschleife in 7:18.

Sound

A titanium exhaust and a stripped cabin put the Mezger's whistles, flutter and wastegate sighs closer to your ears than in any other turbocharged 911. But it is still boost noise: the flat-six wail that makes a GT3 RS 4.0 special is behind two turbochargers here. The best of the turbo 911s, below the naturally aspirated GT cars.

Front passenger seatVaries

The only position there is, so makers of this era equip it: expect a passenger-airbag cut-off (key switch or occupant sensing) as standard, because there is no rear row to point children to. Whether the seat itself carries ISOFIX anchors is maker-specific — Porsche bundles them with its child-seat preparation, Ferrari sold them as an option, others are belt-mount only with the airbag off.

Derived from production years and seating layout, not a per-car source. ISOFIX was standardised as ISO 13216 in 1997, required on new EU model types from 2011 and on all new EU cars from 2014.

The long version

The GT2 RS was built as the 997's send-off, 500 cars at around $245,000, and it sold out before the first one was delivered. That is where its ownership story was written. It was a flip from the start — cars listed at premiums with delivery mileage within the year — and by the time values passed $400,000 the fleet had settled into the pattern every limited-run Porsche follows: a small number driven properly by people who bought it for the Mezger and the manual, a majority kept at low mileage in collections, and a steady trade between them at auction. The engine is the connection to the 996 GT2 before it and the GT3 RS 4.0 beside it, and that lineage is what the market prices. The 991 GT2 RS of 2018 is faster by every measure and PDK-only, which only made this car's clutch pedal more valuable. It is as involving as any 911 in the index and as little driven as the Carrera GT.
