Why 5.0: Not an AMG badge car, but it is the philosophical ancestor: huge engine in a sober saloon, the template AMG built a business around.

Sound

The 6.3-litre M100 has the deep, unhurried chest of a big cast-iron V8, and the hydraulic suspension pump ticking beneath it is part of the experience. But it was engineered for silence and runs out at 5,600 rpm, so it offers dignity rather than noise.

Child seats · ISOFIX

Anywhere in the carNot available

Built before ISOFIX existed, so there are no anchor points at all. A child seat here is a seatbelt installation, and the belt geometry of the period was not designed with one in mind.

Derived from production years and seating layout, not a per-car source. ISOFIX was standardised as ISO 13216 in 1997, required on new EU model types from 2011 and on all new EU cars from 2014.

The long version

Before AMG became a trim level, Mercedes itself built the idea: take the limousine body and fit the big V8 from the 600. The 300 SEL 6.3 was expensive, quiet and shockingly fast for its era, which makes it the true origin point of the executive Q-car. It is too old and valuable to score as a frequent-use driver's car now, but as lineage it matters enormously. The AMG sweep needs it because mythology without ancestry turns into badge collecting.
