2015–2019 · 3.8L twin-turbo V8, 562 hp · DCT · carbon tub
5.6 / 10
Involvement 7.3 / 10

Why 5.6: Entry-level in the McLaren range only by price — hydraulic steering, a carbon tub and 562 turbo horsepower in the lightest Sports Series McLaren built. It also depreciated harder than almost anything else in this index, which is what pulled in the buyers who actually drive it.

The long version

McLaren pitched this as the accessible end of the lineup, and the used market obliged by roughly halving the price within a few years, steeper than the 720S above it or the Ferraris it got cross-shopped against. That collapse scared off buyers chasing badge equity at MSRP, leaving the field to people who wanted the hydraulic-steered chassis McLaren is actually known for, at half the original sticker. This generation kept hydraulic assist before McLaren moved to electric racks, and the owners who found that out at bargain prices tend to keep driving it rather than flip it again.
