Why 6.9: A hand-assembled naturally aspirated V8 revving to 7,300 rpm, in a coupe that starts every morning for 200,000 miles without complaint. The German competition went turbo years ago; RC F buyers specifically wanted the one that didn't.

Sound

Yamaha did the heads and the intake tract, and the 5.0 turns hard and metallic through the last 1,500 rpm to 7,300. But induction drowns the exhaust at most speeds and it is a broad V8 blare rather than anything intricate. Behind the LC, ahead of every turbo rival.

The long version

Lexus built the RC F as a direct answer to the M4 and C63 coupe, and then spent the whole conversation losing the spec-sheet fight on weight while quietly winning it on engine character — the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 revs to 7,300 rpm with none of the muffled turbo drone that had already taken over the German competition by the time this launched. That trade-off is exactly what its buyers signed up for: reliability and a howling redline over outright lap times, the same IS F playbook one generation later. It gets driven accordingly — owners who wanted a numbers-winning track weapon bought the M4 instead, so what's left in RC F ownership skews toward people using it as a daily coupe that happens to have a genuine V8 under the hood. Depreciation has followed a normal Japanese-luxury-coupe curve, steep early and leveling off once the badge-conscious buyers moved on, which is exactly the window a used-NA-V8 shopper wants to be in.
