Why 5.8: DougScore 56 for Jaguar's angriest XK, the widebody send-off before the F-Type took over the whole range. Depreciation has been steep enough that it now undercuts the car that replaced it, despite being faster.

The long version

The XKR-S was Jaguar's send-off for the XK generation, a widebody, stiffened, more aggressive final word before the F-Type took over the range entirely — more power, a locking rear diff, and a chassis wound tighter than the standard XKR without ever feeling as sharp as its numbers suggest. That timing worked against resale: buyers cross-shopping used sports GTs increasingly wanted the newer, more talked-about F-Type, leaving the XKR-S to depreciate as an overlooked stepping stone between two more famous cars. What's left is a genuinely quick supercharged V8 GT that gets bought by people who did the math and realized it undercuts an F-Type R on price for more power, then driven the way any big, cossetted coupe gets driven — warm-weather roads, not warm-up laps.
