Why 3.0: The twin-turbo AMG V12 and active-aero chassis are as good as anything in this class, but the single-clutch automated manual — jerky at low speed, criticized in period road tests — caps every other lens exactly the way a dated automated box always does. The hardware earns a 7 or better everywhere else; the gearbox is why this reads a full point below the Zonda it replaced.

The long version

Pagani traded the Zonda's gated manual for a single-clutch automated box on the Huayra, a swap owners and reviewers alike have never fully forgiven even as the active-aero chassis underneath earned its own reputation. That gearbox discourages the kind of casual, spirited driving the Zonda invited, and it shows in how Huayras get used — more show-and-shine, more factory events, less of the impromptu backroad blast the spec sheet suggests it could deliver. Values dipped early and have since climbed comfortably past the original sticker.
