Why 6.2: GT R running gear — wide rear track, rear-wheel steering, more boost — in a body one rung down from the R's full aero package. It sold in smaller numbers than either sibling and gets cross-shopped, and driven, almost identically to both.

The long version

AMG built the GT C to give buyers the GT R's wide-body stance, rear-wheel steering and most of its power without the full carbon aero kit or the R's price premium, which makes it the version enthusiasts who did their homework often bought instead. It shares the transaxle layout and torque-tube driveline with every other coupe in the GT family, so the ownership pattern tracks its siblings closely: weekend backroad use, occasional track days, real depreciation in the first few years followed by a leveling-off as the GT platform's finite production run gets recognized. Buyers cross-shopped it against the GT S more than the GT R, since the price gap to the R rarely felt justified once the C already had the wide rear tires and the steering trick. It is the version of the first-generation AMG GT most likely to still be driven the way AMG intended, mostly because it was never expensive enough to become a garage centerpiece.
