The long version

A 35 buyers are usually stepping up from a GTI or down from wanting an A 45 they could not justify, and the car gets used accordingly: motorway commutes, winter tires, the occasional B-road detour that reminds them why they paid the AMG premium. Depreciation did the usual compact-premium thing, which quietly turned it into one of the cheaper ways into a modern AMG badge. The hatch body never crossed the Atlantic — America got the sedan — so it wears Forbidden Fruit on body style, like the B7 RS4 Avant before it.
