Hyundai Veloster N
Why 8.4: DougScore 58, matching the i30 N's chassis to a shape America couldn't get any other way. Depreciation has been brutal and nobody driving one seems to mind — it was bought to be thrashed, not preserved.

Sound
The crackle out of the twin exhaust in Sport+ is real unburnt fuel rather than a recording, and Hyundai let it be genuinely rude. But a vibrator under the wiper cowling adds a synthesised layer on top and the 2.0 turbo underneath is ordinary. Honest pipes, dishonest cabin.

Market value
Median asking price, good condition · €28k (2019) → €19k (2026), trending down · illustrative data
Child seats · ISOFIX
Two rear outboard LATCH positions, rated Acceptable for ease of use. The lower anchors sit deep in the seat bight and the top tethers are in the cargo floor, where the trunk mat tends to bury them.
No front anchor position — consistent with US-market practice, where front LATCH is simply not offered.
Fit data is for the Veloster body rather than the N specifically; the N's changes are the front sport seats, so the rear structure carries over.

The long version
America never got the i30 N, so the Veloster N's three-door shell was the only way to buy this specific N-division chassis new — a detail that shaped who bought one from day one: people who'd been reading about the European car for years and wanted the closest thing available here. Hyundai killed the Veloster nameplate after 2022, which capped the used supply early and turned every surviving example into the last of a discontinued line, yet prices still slid the way every honest hot hatch's prices slide. Nobody is trailering a Veloster N to a concours lawn. It gets tracked, commuted in, and occasionally curbed by twenty-something owners who bought it because it was the cheapest real manual N product sold in the US, exactly as Hyundai intended.
