7.8 / 10
Involvement 8.5 / 10

Why 7.8: Honda's last Euro-only Type R before the brand went turbo — an 8,000 rpm four-cylinder in a chassis Honda cheapened slightly to hit a price point, and enthusiasts drove it hard anyway. Track-day regular then, future-classic listing now, per Hagerty's own recent verdict.

Sound

The K20 changes voice at 5,800 rpm and pulls to 8,000, and nearly all the drama is induction rather than exhaust. But the FN2 is silenced far more heavily than the S2000 and the tone above the cam change is flat and mechanical, leaving it well short of that Honda.

Rear seatsStandard

UK/Euro fitment tools and owner forums confirm ISOFIX in the rear outboard positions — Honest John's car-seat chooser lists Group 0+, 1 and 2 ISOFIX seats as fitting the 2007-2010 Civic Type R, and Civinfo threads describe the anchors between seat-back and cushion.

Front passenger seatNot available

No front-seat ISOFIX — as with every Civic Type R generation, child-seat provision is rear-only.

The long version

Honda built the FN2 for Europe only, cost-cutting the rear suspension to a simpler setup than the multilink underneath the Japanese-market FD2 sedan, and enthusiasts noticed and argued about it for years without it dampening demand much — the 8,000 rpm K20A2 and the Honda Type R badge did the rest of the selling. It spent its first decade as a genuine track-day regular, the default choice for anyone who wanted a screaming NA four and didn't need four doors, and that usage pattern has not really changed even as Hagerty started calling it a future classic. Values bottomed out in the mid-2010s and have been climbing since, the clearest sign yet that the car's cheapened rear axle never mattered as much as the internet argued it did. It never reached America in any form — the US got no Type R at all during this generation — so it wears Forbidden Fruit by simple absence, not by design.
